The Gilt Proof

№ 0000798985

Common

Winter bird counts — kept in the North Ink stack.

Edition 798,985 of 1,000,000,000. 100 shapes, mostly pentagons, mostly cream. It sits in block 14,237, minted with that block's other 4,999 editions, scattered across the billion.

Ink has browned at the edge. Surveyor Novak set it down in graphite, and the sheet shows fibers lifted where a label was peeled.

It is folio 985 of Hazel 10, in the Quiet Range, North Ink stack. The instrument was recalibrated the next morning.
