The Distant Ledger

№ 0000499040

Common

Abandoned timetables — kept in the North Ink stack.

Edition 499,040 of 1,000,000,000. 100 shapes, mostly pentagons, mostly tangerine. It sits in block 53,360, minted with that block's other 4,999 editions, scattered across the billion.

The original was copied twice. Proofreader Abebe set it down in iron-gall ink, and the sheet shows fibers lifted where a label was peeled.

It is folio 40 of Willow 10, in the Quiet Cloister, North Ink stack. The instrument was recalibrated the next morning.
