The Rigid Clock

№ 0040418996

Common

Furnace temperatures — kept in the North Oak stack.

Edition 40,418,996 of 1,000,000,000. 100 shapes, mostly lines, mostly rust. It sits in block 153,566, minted with that block's other 4,999 editions, scattered across the billion.

The original was copied twice. Night archivist Pell set it down in a silver print, and the sheet shows fibers lifted where a label was peeled.

It is folio 996 of Hazel 2, in the Quiet Cloister, North Oak stack. The instrument was recalibrated the next morning.
