The Spare Proof

№ 0000001050

Common

Lamp failures — kept in the North Ink stack.

Edition 1,050 of 1,000,000,000. 100 shapes, mostly rectangles, mostly rust. It sits in block 26,350, minted with that block's other 4,999 editions, scattered across the billion.

Filed without a date. Surveyor Adler set it down in soft pencil, and the sheet shows fibers lifted where a label was peeled.

It is folio 50 of Elm 1, in the Quiet Gallery, North Ink stack. The instrument was recalibrated the next morning.
